Eyes Fixed on Him

In His sweetness, the Lord saved me at an early age. I grew up in a home that modeled Christ’s love and goodness. Psalm 16:5 says, “The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.” In my childhood, the Lord laid pleasant boundary lines that helped me later live in step with Him.

With each stage of my life, I can look back to see where I lived by my flesh or by faith. Ten years ago, the Lord used my husband’s need for community to draw us to Watermark Community Church. Since then, I’ve grown in my hunger for His Word and how to study it. I also realized my need for God’s people.

I was living a life of isolation, but soon, God gave me sweet relationships with a group in McKinney who also drove down to the Watermark. These precious women helped me see areas of improvement in my life and created a safe place for confession. They showed me how to parent more gently and to work on body image issues.

Although I served as a table leader for the Nest at Watermark, I started to wonder how I could use my creative gifts more purposefully and prayed that God would show me those opportunities. When we moved to CityBridge, He answered that prayer in more ways than I could have ever imagined. I allowed women to surround me, sharpen me, pray for me, and push me out of my comfort zone. God used this community to help me surrender my fear and insecurities and remind me to keep my eyes always on the Lord.

Now serving in Women’s ministry, I get to use my creative gifts while helping women fall in love with God’s Word. It’s one of my greatest joys to have a front-row seat to their lives.

I don’t know what life before Jesus would look like, but I know that it would be a mess. Psalm 16:8 says it best: “I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.” No matter what’s going on in my life or our culture, I am not shaken. I can keep in step with Him because my eyes are on Him. When I surround myself with the people of God and His Word, I see the joy and fruit of a life lived with Him.
