Scripture Reference

Acts 2 (Jesus Storybook Bible, p. 326-333)

Teaching Truth

  • Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to help people who follow Him.

  • People who follow Jesus are called His church.

Questions to Ask Your Child

  • Who was the special present that Jesus sent?

  • What did the Holy Spirit look like for the disciples?

  • What did the Holy Spirit help the disciples do?

Family Activity

The sending of the Holy Spirit was the start of the Church. To celebrate this, make birthday cupcakes with your child. Grab a white cake mix, frosting, sprinkles, and food coloring. Let your child help you make the cake batter. Once you get all the ingredients mixed together, let your child add several drops of one color of food coloring. While he is mixing it, talk to your child about how the Holy Spirit changes the heart of someone who loves Jesus just as food coloring changes the color of the batter. After baking the cupcakes, decorate them with icing and sprinkles.

Wrap-Up

With each lesson, help your child apply what they have learned by asking, “What do you think God wants us to learn from this story?” If you get stuck with finding the answer, refer to the weekly Teaching Truths.
