Sermon Notes

Welcome to Vision Sunday!

This weekend is all about reminding ourselves of who we are as followers of Jesus, and clarifying what how we’re going to grow as a church in our next season.

At CityBridge, our mission is simple and steady: calling all people to be fully devoted followers of Christ.

This weekend, we look at how Jesus forms disciples through a clear and life-giving discipleship pathway. We are called to believe in Christ, belong to His church, be equipped in His Word, and be engaged in His mission. These four movements shape who we are and guide where we are going as a church.

As we grow together in this next season, God is inviting us to equip the church and engage the city with the hope of the gospel. We’re reminded that discipleship is not accidental. It is intentional, joyful, and shared.

A Clear Calling

CityBridge exists for one clear reason. We’re calling all people to be fully devoted followers of Christ.

That calling has not changed. It has guided us, shaped us, and carried us forward through seasons of growth, challenge, and renewal.

We are not searching for a new mission. We are reminding ourselves of the one Jesus has already given us. A mission that is simple, demanding, and full of hope. Make disciples. Teach them to obey. Walk with them as they follow Jesus with their whole lives.

The People Jesus Sees

When Jesus looks at the crowds, He does not see problems to manage or projects to fix. He sees people. Weary. Scattered. Searching. And Scripture tells us He is moved with compassion.

That compassion is not distant or abstract. It is personal. It leads Him to teach, to heal, to forgive, and ultimately to give His life. Compassion is the heartbeat of Jesus’ mission, and it is meant to be the heartbeat of His church.

A church shaped by compassion does not rush past people. It slows down. It notices. It loves.

The 4Bs: Believe in Christ

Everything begins here. Believing in Christ is not simply agreeing with facts about Jesus. It is trusting Him with our lives. It is responding to His grace and receiving the new life He offers.

This belief is the foundation of discipleship. Without it, nothing else stands. With it, everything changes. Forgiveness is real, our hope is steady, and our identity is secure.

Fully devoted followers of Jesus begin by believing in Christ.

Belong to His Church

The Christian life was never meant to be lived alone. Jesus does not save individuals into isolation. He brings people into His body, His church.

Belonging means being known. It means showing up, sharing life, and carrying one another through joy and struggle. It means choosing commitment over convenience and community over comfort.

The church becomes a family when people decide not just to attend, but to belong.

Be Equipped in His Word

Disciples grow when they are grounded in the truth of the Bible. God equips His people through His Word, shaping how we think, live, and love.

Being equipped is not about information alone. It is about formation. Scripture trains us, corrects us, and prepares us for the work God has given us to do.

An equipped church is a confident church.

Be Engaged in His Mission

Jesus never equips His people just for their own growth. He equips them to go. To speak. To serve. To love.

Engaging the city means carrying the hope of the gospel into everyday places: neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, and conversations. It means seeing the city not as a problem to escape, but as a people God deeply loves.

As God equips the church, He sends the church.

Equip the Church, Engage the City

This is where vision becomes action. Our calling is not only to gather, but to be sent. To grow together and move outward together.

When the church is equipped, the city is engaged. When disciples are formed, mission is multiplied. And when people follow Jesus fully, their lives and communities are changed.

Moving Forward Together

Vision Sunday is an invitation. Not to pressure. Not to fear. But to faith.

To believe in Christ.

To belong to His church.

To be equipped in His Word.

To be engaged in His mission.

God has been faithful. God is at work. And God is calling CityBridge to keep moving forward together as fully devoted followers of Christ.
