Go. Do. Share. Serve. Everywhere.

Sermon Notes

If Jesus watched your life after Sunday service, what would He see? In this message, Brad Kirby reminds us that Jesus didn't just call us to attend church. He called us to live on mission. Through Matthew 28, Jeremiah 29, and more, we explore how the Jesus Way is a life of action: going, doing, and sharing the gospel with the world around us.

Whether you're wondering how to live your faith more intentionally or how to impact your neighborhood, this message is a practical reminder that mission isn’t reserved for a few. It’s for every follower of Jesus.

Key Takeaways

  • Mission is not a church program, it’s a personal calling.

  • Everyone has an Oikos, 8 to 15 people uniquely positioned to hear the gospel from you.

Transcript

Brad Kirby opens the message with a sobering thought. What if Jesus is observing us, not just during the church service, but afterward too? What would He see as we leave and go about our week? The real test of discipleship, Brad says, is what happens when we walk out the doors. Are we living like sent people? Are we walking the Jesus Way—going, doing, and sharing the gospel in everyday life?

Why Was Jesus Sent?

Brad reframes the popular question, “Why did Jesus come?” Instead, he points us to a better question: “Why was Jesus sent?” Scripture tells us that Jesus was sent by the Father with a clear purpose—to seek and save the lost. In the same way, Jesus sends us into the world with that same mission. We are not bystanders. We are missionaries called to carry His heart to the places He has sent us.

The Church on Mission

Too often, churches can drift into spiritual maintenance rather than spiritual movement. Brad shares powerful statistics that show just how far the church has moved away from personal evangelism and mission. Despite the clear commands in Scripture, many believers have stopped going, doing, and sharing. Jesus wants more than attendance. He wants alignment. And that starts with understanding that we are a sent people.

Hope in Hard Places

From Jeremiah 29, Brad reminds us that God's plan for His people in exile was not escape, but engagement. God told the captives in Babylon to build, plant, marry, and pray for the city's welfare. This was not the rescue plan they hoped for, but it was the redemption plan they needed. In the same way, God has placed us in our cities with purpose. We are not trapped. We are trusted to live out mission where we are.

What the Jesus Way Does

Living the Jesus Way means doing more than believing. It means embodying the gospel where you live. Brad challenges us to live regular, godly lives—building homes, raising families, and contributing to our communities with integrity. Plano does not need more programs. It needs more visible examples of Christ-followers loving well, living wisely, and walking with purpose.

Pray for Your City

Jeremiah 29:7 calls us to seek the welfare of the city and to pray for it. Brad encourages us to pray for the economy, the safety, the leadership, and the people of Collin County. Prayer is not just a spiritual discipline—it is a civic duty for those who believe God has placed them where they are for a reason.

The Jesus Way Shares

Throughout Scripture, those who encountered Jesus went home and shared. The man freed from demons, the Samaritan woman, the disciples—all immediately told others. Brad teaches that this is not just ancient practice. It is God's plan today. Most people come to Christ not through programs or pastors, but through personal relationships. Our oikos—our network of family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors—is our greatest mission field.

Living Sent Starts with You

Brad closes by asking us to consider our circles of influence. Who are the eight to fifteen people God has already placed in our lives? That is our oikos. And that is where the Jesus Way begins. We identify them, pray for them, invest in them, and influence them through our consistent example. This is not complicated. It is faithful. And it is powerful when we actually live it.
